The Las Plumas Thunderbirds battled through a back-and-forth road game Friday night, scoring the go-ahead touchdown with just 19 seconds remaining to defeat the West Valley Eagles 28–21.

West Valley wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown to take an early 7–0 lead. The Thunderbirds answered back, tying the game at 7–7.

Las Plumas then took its first lead of the night when quarterback Branden Robinson connected with Kaden Parris on a long touchdown pass, putting the Thunderbirds ahead 14–7.

The Eagles threatened several times in the first half, but the Las Plumas defense came up with big stops when it mattered most, twice turning West Valley away in the red zone. The Thunderbirds carried their 14–7 lead into halftime.

The momentum shifted in the third quarter as West Valley found its rhythm offensively. The Eagles drove down the field for a couple of scores, eventually tying the game and putting the Thunderbirds on their heels.

Las Plumas appeared to be struggling to find an answer as West Valley continued to threaten deep into the fourth quarter. Then, with the game hanging in the balance, Braeden Knight came up with a crucial interception, giving the Thunderbirds the opportunity they needed.

Las Plumas’ offense responded with its biggest drive of the night. The Thunderbirds moved the ball down the field and, with just 19 seconds remaining, Kaden Parris powered into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown, putting Las Plumas ahead 28–21.

The Thunderbirds’ defense then held strong, closing out the Eagles and securing a dramatic road victory.

West Valley proved to be a tough opponent, but the Thunderbirds showed tremendous resilience and found a way to make the biggest plays when it mattered most. Knight’s late interception and Parris’ game-winning touchdown highlighted an exciting finish and a memorable victory for Las Plumas.
