The Las Plumas Thunderbirds varsity volleyball team opened the season in impressive fashion Tuesday night, defeating the Paradise Bobcats 3-1 in a hard-fought match.

All four sets were closely contested, with both teams battling back and forth throughout the night. The Thunderbirds showed their composure in key moments to come away with their first victory of the season.

Middle hitter Caysley Hepworth led the Thunderbirds at the net with 10 kills and 5 blocks, while Mackenzie Sills added 9 kills. Defensively, libero Josslyn Mendenhall anchored the Thunderbirds with 11 digs, and setter Sarah Floyd directed the offense with 17 assists.

The Thunderbirds will look to build on the strong opening-night performance as they continue their season.
