Walk-Off Magic Sends Las Plumas to State


The Las Plumas High School softball team capped off an incredible season Saturday by winning the NSCIF Division II Championship with a thrilling 13-12 comeback victory over the Chico Panthers.

The Thunderbirds improved their remarkable record to 28-1-1 and now advance to the CIF State Softball Playoffs after one of the most dramatic wins of the season.

Las Plumas showed incredible determination throughout the championship game. The Thunderbirds trailed by six runs early before battling back to tie the game. In the final inning, Las Plumas once again faced adversity after falling behind by five runs, but the Thunderbirds refused to quit.

Andrea Herrera delivered one of the biggest hits of the game with a clutch three-run home run that sparked the late rally and brought Las Plumas back within striking distance.

Rylie McInturf came through in the biggest moment of the game. McInturf finished with two RBIs, including the game-winning walk-off hit that sealed the Northern Section title for the Thunderbirds. Raegan Johnson raced home with the winning run as Las Plumas completed the unforgettable comeback.

Kyler Story pitched a strong game in the circle and helped keep the Thunderbirds in position to rally throughout the championship battle.

With the victory, Las Plumas claims the Northern Section CIF Division II championship and continues its historic 28-1-1 season into the CIF State Softball Playoffs.
